Doggone Acres is a thirty-eight acre farm that has been in the family since the early 1900's. We, Ben and Jean Malcom, have now lived here and continued to work the land for eleven years. We have a nice variety of produce, all of which are completely pesticide free. Peaches, apples, and pears are some delights among seasonal produce...along with grapes, figs, blueberries, and muscadines. Besides our fruits, we also garden every year which sends us more tomatoes, bell peppers, jalepenos, zuccinni, green beans, and corn than we hardly know what to do with! Jean stays busy in the kitchen during these summer months as the 'canning season' strides to its fullest. She cans alot of tomato sauce, meatless spaghetti sauce, and an assortment of delicious Jams and Jellies. Doggone Acres also offers some of those famous Georgia pecans, as it is that we have a nice pecan orchard within our front yard. During the summer of 2009 we were a part of the local farmer's market, the Midland Avenue Produce Jam, here in Monroe. Every Saturday from eight a.m. to noon we would set up our stand of home-grown produce, canned goods, and even homemade goodies such as blueberry-streusel muffins and cinnamon rolls.
We are now in the process of getting ready for this year's gardening plans and hard work....but we look forward to it, doggone it, and always love the excitement of reaping what we sow!
Thank-you so much for stopping by our Doggone Acres, we hope to benefit you with our home-grown produce this year and hope you'll stop by again!
